  1.                                 1992 Developer's Competition

  3. What is the Developer's Competition?
  4. We have all heard claims about which development tools are the best
  5. and the quickest.  The 1992 Developer's Competition is an event
  6. which will put these claims to the test.  The competition will take
  7. place October 9th and 10th, 1992 in Durham, North Carolina and will
  8. pit 120 software developers against one another as they attempt to
  9. build a database application in 6 hours.  
  10.  
  11. Each competitor will consist of a team of one or two persons using
  12. a variety of database application software, languages, and third
  13. party products.  Only one CPU, keyboard, and printer is allowed. 
  14. This is a no holds barred competition.  Developers can use any
  15. tools, language, or program generators.  Only completed
  16. applications used as templates are prohibited.  First, second, and
  17. third place contestants will receive cash prizes ($5000, $3000,
  18. $2000) respectively.  Each competitor will receive at least $300
  19. in software of their choice.

  21. Why Should I Compete?
  22.  
  23. -      The entry fee is only $200 per team member.  This includes
  24.        meals, a chance to win the prize money, product and the
  25.        "Proceedings".  More than this though, it is an exhilarating
  26.        experience.

  28. -      Your company will receive national recognition if it places
  29.        within the top ten competitors.
  30.  
  31. -      All competitors will receive at least $300 worth of software
  32.        development products of their choice.  See the list of prizes
  33.        awarded at the 1991 Developer's Competition.

  35. -      All competitors will gain invaluable experience as they see
  36.        first hand how other software developers work, the software
  37.        development environment they work in and why.

  39. How to Register
  40. There is no deadline, but only the first 100 teams will be
  41. accepted.  We must receive a completed registration with a deposit
  42. of $100 per member to be accepted.  Spectators can attend the event
  43. for $20 at the door.  Spectators who would like to attend the
  44. social events, the Friday night reception and the awards dinner
  45. must make a reservation and prepay $75.

  47. How else can I get involved?
  48. If this event sounds interesting to you, but you can't compete, you
  49. might consider participating in one of the following ways:  We need
  50. Judges:  If you have experience as either a software developer or
  51. a manager of an MIS department, or have lots of experience using
  52. computer software, you may qualify as a judge.  We need Hardware: 
  53. If you are a local computer company that can lend computers,
  54. monitors, printers, etc...  Let us know.  We are in need of a
  55. "KodaShow" or similar product for projecting computer displays
  56. using an overhead projector.  We need Volunteers:  If you would
  57. like to help out the day of the competition let us know and we will
  58. put you to work.
